Tiger Shroff Firing Case Triggers Credit War Between Mumbai and Rajasthan Police
The arrest of three alleged shooters in the Tiger Shroff firing case at Kota railway station has triggered an apparent credit war between Mumbai and Rajasthan Police, following remarks by SP Tejaswini and Commissioner Deven Bharti.
The incident took place in Mumbai, but the three accused were arrested at Kota railway station in Rajasthan. While Mumbai Police tracked the suspects and shared crucial information with Rajasthan Police, the latter carried out a rapid search operation and apprehended the accused. The subsequent exchange of remarks has raised questions about the need for competing claims over an operation that depended on coordination between police forces in two states.
Mumbai Police provided Rajasthan Police with detailed information about the suspects, including their faces captured in CCTV footage, the train they were travelling on and the specific coach in which they were located. Acting on these inputs, Rajasthan Police conducted a search of the entire train in just 15 minutes.
The suspects were travelling in a general coach amid the crowd, which could have made it easier for them to escape. However, the police cordoned off all entry and exit gates at the station. The Railway Police also extended full cooperation, helping the operation conclude without any disturbance or unnecessary commotion.
Kota Superintendent of Police Tejaswini subsequently highlighted the professionalism and speed of the Rajasthan Police operation. Although she did not explicitly claim exclusive credit for the arrests, her remarks were seen as emphasising the role played by the state police.
“There is coordination between police forces in different states. We received information from there, but we have demonstrated that Rajasthan Police is a professional force and performs its duties efficiently. Our team searched the entire train in just 15 minutes and arrested the accused. This was possible because of the swift action taken by Kota Police,” Tejaswini said.
Her statement acknowledged the information received from Mumbai while stressing that the successful arrests were made possible by the rapid response of the Kota Police. The remarks were interpreted as an indirect assertion of Rajasthan Police’s contribution to the operation.
Mumbai Police, meanwhile, did not directly respond to the perceived attempt to claim credit for the arrests. However, Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti posted a remark in a WhatsApp group that appeared to convey the force’s position on the issue.
“Success has a hundred fathers, but failure is an orphan,” Bharti wrote.
The comment was viewed as an indirect response to the remarks attributed to Rajasthan Police and brought the apparent differences over credit for the operation into focus.
The sequence of events shows that Mumbai Police had undertaken the initial investigative work in the case, examining CCTV footage, tracking the suspects and pursuing other aspects of the investigation. Based on its tracking efforts, Mumbai Police informed Rajasthan Police that the three accused were travelling by train and provided the details needed to locate them.
Rajasthan Police then acted swiftly on the information, searching the train and arresting the suspects at Kota railway station. The operation demonstrated the role of inter-state police coordination, with Mumbai Police supplying the intelligence and Rajasthan Police executing the arrest.
The prompt response by Kota Police was significant because the suspects were travelling in a crowded general coach, where identifying and apprehending them could have been challenging. The police also secured the station’s entry and exit points, while the Railway Police supported the operation.
However, the subsequent emphasis on professionalism and the indirect exchange between Tejaswini and Bharti shifted attention from the coordinated operation to the question of credit. While Rajasthan Police highlighted its swift action, the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s comment appeared to underline the contribution of the force that had tracked the suspects and supplied the crucial information.
At a time when the firing incident involving Tiger Shroff itself raises questions, the apparent contest over recognition for the arrests has become another point of discussion. The operation involved investigative efforts by Mumbai Police and a rapid response by Rajasthan Police, illustrating how cooperation between forces can lead to the apprehension of suspects across state boundaries.
